Year 6's Business Adventure

2/25/2016

After many weeks of research, planning, developing, creating and hard work we, the Year 6 students, were finally ready for the culmination of our ‘Business Adventure’ Social Studies unit.

On February 4th each group ran a stall at the Chai Wan Chinese New Year night market. Our aim was to raise as much money for our partner school in Yangshuo, China to help them make repairs to the entrance of their school.  When it rains they have to wade through half a metre of water to get to school at the moment!

We sold a variety of products including cakes, biscuits, candy, stationary and much more. We also ran some amazing games and competitions. At the end of the unit of inquiry we have raised a whopping $10,700 for the much need work to be completed on our partner school in China. A further $1000 has also been raised through the talent competition some of our students has ran.

We would like to add a thank you to all the maintenance staff who helped set up the night and add a special thank you to Mr. Guise, Mr. Cameron, Miss Weir and all our parents who helped us with our massively successful project.

Over the past two weeks all the primary classes have been learning with LEAP. Last week some of our older students at Chai Wan found out about keeping safe in cyberspace. This week our younger Jardine’s Lookout classes have been learning about their bodies and healthy eating. ‘Harold the Giraffe’ will be parking the LEAP van outside Jardine’s Lookout until 18th February and he will also be visited by lots of classes from the French Section. Mr. Jackson, Primary science teacher.

“It’s up to me, it’s up to you.  Help this planet Earth to stay evergreen, everblue.”
These words from popular children’s songwriter, Raffi, celebrate our Earth … our home, and the importance of working together to take care of it.
On Friday, January 29th, the Year 3 classes performed Big, Beautiful Planet
, a musical revue featuring the songs of well-known Canadian entertainer Raffi, whose more recent work focuses on environmental causes.  The Year 3s enjoyed singing lots of sings in English and in French, and also shared lots of facts about our beautiful planet. Mrs Turner, Primary teacher
