![]() The internationally well-known Mandarin singing British rock group “Transition” visited FIS on Monday, June 6th. A few of their original compositions were used as unit hook songs in the curriculum these last few years with the most notable being their smash hit “Dui Bu Qi” with their professional music video here and our own students singing with them at the close of their show at Jardine’s Lookout here. Besides a powerful and highly energetic concert in the afternoon attended by Y3-Y6 students in the auditorium, they were also able to conduct song writing workshops in Mandarin with several classes using original student generated lyrics that piggy backed the well-known chorus. The annual Mandarin awards were presented and the students who received them this term had the honour of being congratulated by the band members on stage. A 5X7 photo commemorating their achievement will be presented to each student. Another highlight was our very own FIS students took the stage and performed their recent ‘Chinese Idol’ competition songs for Transition. Two groups combined to fill the stage. You can view their rehearsals leading up to their final performances hereand here. Finally, a whole audience dance that Josh taught to one of Transition前進樂團’s covers of伍佰 - 妳是我的花朵 “You are my Flower” by 500 redefined excitement. It can be found on Youtubehere. All in all it was a fun filled day with some very famous yet generous musicians and teachers! The band offered to ship personalized and autographed CDs to any student or staff member. Even though the offer has lapsed their music is widely available via iTunes and other online sources. You may continue the learning journey with the following free resources available online and support the band through the links below. Enjoy your summer! Wu Laoshi
