The second term has started extremely positively with staff and students once again actively engaged in teaching and learning. I am excited about the educational challenges that are ahead and know you will continue to support us in our efforts to make FIS the best it can possibly be.
This term promises to be very exciting with highlights such as ; the LEAP bus ,Year 3 Show, Chinese New Year celebrations, Athletics Days, Y5 camp, class trips to; markets and Ark Eden and ICT week[Digital Citizenship Week] and the Chai Wan campus Kermesse in February. We are also aiming to continue our focus upon teaching and learning development in all phases of the school. I am looking forward to seeing more excellent teaching and learning in the classrooms. The teachers will be busy over the next few weeks interviewing prospective RC students for next year and the leadership team will be recruiting staff for our Phase leader positions commencing September. Teaching and learning development; another part of this process is that we are eagerly anticipating Professor Sugata Mitra’s visit to the school on January 28th and Mr Harold Roberts Sugata Mitra is Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, England. He is best known for his "Hole in the Wall" experiment, and widely cited in works on literacy and education. Professor Mitra is also the winner of the 2013 TED Prize and his academic work on self organised learning provided inspiration for the Oscar winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire”. It would be wonderful to see as many parents as possible attending Professor Mitra’s talk in the AUDITORIUM as it promises to be outstanding. Do come along. Links to Professor Mitra’s work can be found here: http://www.ted.com/talks/sugata_mitra_build_a_school_in_the_cloud http://www.ted.com/talks/sugata_mitra_the_child_driven_education http://www.theguardian.com/education/2009/mar/03/professor-sugata-mitra Student sickness May I ask parents to remember to contact the school office when their child is off sick from school. In order to save valuable working hours I would be grateful if you would cc. the school nurse Extended holidays I notice that there are still many children still off on holiday. Although sometimes travel is unavoidable during term time I so often see it causing children to miss key elements of their learning. Applications for leave during term time should be made to me and shared with the class teacher. Many thanks for your understanding. |
