The World Education Games

10/8/2015

The world's largest education competition is coming on 13th-15th October.  Let us take part in uniting the world in learning and support the World Education Games UNICEF project.  It is a global online challenge designed for students aged 4-18 years.  All students are assigned content for their appropriate year level.

Students and schools taking part in the World Education Games will earn points for each correct answer given. A live digital Hall of Fame on the homepage will track the top scoring students and schools from right across the world.  At the end of the event, medals and trophies will be awarded to the top students and schools.

By taking part across the World Education Games, students will also earn Unicef Points for every correct answer they give during the competition period.  At the end of the event, all Unicef Points earned by students across the world will be added up and turned into cash.  The more points earned during the event, the more students we can support!

Important FAQs
  • When does the competition take place? It effectively overlaps from 12th to 16th October 2015.
  • How long will we have access?  Access to the World Education Games areas of Mathletics, Spellodrome and IntoScience will open from 1st to 30th October 2015.
  • How much time is needed to take part of the event?  Only the scores from a student’s first 20 challenges are counted towards their competition points tally (although students can take part in as many challenges as they wish!). Each game lasts between 1 and 3 minutes (depending on the event subject). The competition period spans almost a whole week and students can dip in and out during this time.
  • When does the warm-up period start?  The full practice period will open to students on 1st October 2015.
  • Can we take part on tablets?  The World Education Games is mobile device friendly. Students can access the event via a range of tablet devices.  (Note: for some events, students will need to download the free Mathletics and IntoScience apps from the Appstore).
Please also find attached files (WEG-Events-Guide.pdf, WEG Teacher Pack WEB-lowres-F1.pdf and DownloadSignInCards.pdf) for your reference.  I have included the whole primary school from three campuses and will leave it open for your class to participate.  Kindly print your own class Sign-In page (Be careful! Do not print the whole pdf file. Sign In Cards has a total of 97 pages.).

If you wish to join, please spare a few minutes to show your class how to login from the link below.  It will give them access to all three competition events.  Please also encourage them to practice at home this week.  An attached WEG2015 Letter to Parents.pdaf and Parent's-Guide-WEG-2015.pdf file can be passed to parents for their information.

(Note: All students I currently teach will work on WEG 2015 next week.  They will be encouraged to continue and finish at home.  For the other classes, please use your computer room slot or book the computer room according to its availability. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.)
Many thanks!
