Edoardo Tanas, Year 9 - A windsurf youth champion !

During the summer I had two important windsurfing competitions: the European Championships in Latvia and the Italian Championships on Lake Como, Italy.
In Latvia the weather was very bad and I had to face unusual conditions, such as extremely high waves (almost 2 meters high!) and a very strong wind (up to 25 knots). I am light weighted and those conditions were very hard to handle! After 4 days and 11 races I ended 6th of the athletes born in 2002, and first between the Italians of my age.
The Italian Championships took place on Lake Como at the beginning of September. The best 50 athletes from all over Italy were competing for the U 15 title. I was very motivated because my family was already in Hong Kong and I was missing the beginning of the school year, I knew it would be difficult to gain a good position in the ranking, as this year I had to compete with people one year older than me… and believe me, it matters!
At the end of all races, with only one point between me and the first, I got the silver medal, I was still the first in the ranking between the competitors of my age.
Now I have to think of my next challenge: the World Championships in Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy) from Oct. 24th to the 31st.
