My name is Lockie ( Year 8 ) and in July my friend Iona and I will be kayaking a section of the river Wye, a total of 100 miles in 3 days. This is a grueling challenge which will test our perseverance and strength.
We are doing this in order to raise money for The Tom Grahame Trust, a charity set up by Iona’s family after her brother Tom died of cancer at the age of 6. Now, 6 years later, we want to do something to help all of the other families going through the same thing as Iona and her family.
The year after Tom died, Iona and her family moved to France for a year to start over and that was where I met Iona.  My family and I had moved over from Australia to spend a few years in France and I met Iona at the entrance to our new school both knowing no French at all. After a year of making new friends, learning a new language and settling into a new place, our families formed an extremely strong bond that we still have now.
Both Iona and I share the same passion for adventure and the outdoors, when we heard about the 100 mile Wye challenge we knew it would be the challenge for us. The 100 miles is usually done in 4 days minimum by adults but Iona and I have decided to increase the challenge by doing it in no more than 3 days! The average 13 year old does about 10 miles on a good day in a kayak and we are planning to do around 30 miles a day! This is a huge challenge for us both and will push us to the limits of our physical and mental abilities. We would be so grateful if you could sponsor us, every bit will help us in our fight towards a cancer free world. I will be telling you all about our challenge next September !
Thank You - Lockie
