Poetry Sonnet in Year 8  English

In English we've been looking at the ability of words to create images, and what impact different words have when creating these images in our minds. We learnt that different words can portray images either directly, or even indirectly. We first looked at riddles and how they engage their readers, then Shakespeare's sonnets, or more specifically sonnets 18 and 116 to see how powerful words can be. After studying these, we went into some depth with iambic pentameter and the structure of ideas using quatrains and couplets.
Now that we were fully equipped with knowledge on how to write a sonnet, we set about writing our own. And I have to say, we all did a pretty good job!”  Rachel Lim, 8A
