On Monday 19th October, Dr Tracey Lloyd, from the School of Psychology at Bangor University, UK, gave an interactive lecture to Year 12 as part of the PSHE programme. It was fascinating both in terms of psychological theory - the mechanics of learning - and also in terms of the practical revision tips given to students. Dr Lloyd explained, for instance, why she does not allow her own undergraduates to use highlighter pens, which she believes create a false sense of security that can mask a lack of true understanding of the text. Bangor's School of Psychology is at the forefront of psychological research in the UK. For the majority of the UK Universities, the study of Psychology at IB level It is not required in order to be considered for a degree in this subject.
