Year 8s welcome Year 6 students for their transition

Day 1 Thursday 26th May
On that day , a flood of Year 6
s entered the school, eager to see what secondary was like but also slightly nervous.  It was ours, the Year 8s’, job to guide them and help them settle in.  After the 'Snack and Chat' in the canteen at 10:00am (the snacks were great), the Year 6s proceeded to their first classes which were science and history tasters while we went to our normal classes.
An hour later, the Year 6s came back from their tasters tired, but somewhat relieved to know that secondary teachers wouldn't eat them if they talked in class.  After a pleasurable lunch hour, the whole Year 8 took a group photo with their buddies and then proceeded to begin the school tour.
The school tour was a lot like a scavenger hunt with riddles as clues.  It was a fun experience as some of the riddles were hard to solve and required our assistance.  To end the day, we did a library tour where the Year 6s were shown around the library, where different books were and how to sign into the library.
Overall, I think it was a great day and most of the anxiety that the Year 6s had was cleared and it was fun for us too as we got a taste of leading them around.  Of course we missed some periods and that might have added to the fun but that's a different thing.  By Akash Rajesh, Year 8

Day 2 Tuesday 7th June .

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have the Y6s come to our campus for the second time as an introduction to secondary. We got into our pre-arranged groups and Madame Leonard gave us a brief on our project. We had to make our own superhero with a connection to the FIS I PROMISE and present our characters to the parents and teachers that evening. We worked as a team to create our characters. There were stressful times but we took a “mindful minute” to work it out. But of most of all we had lots of fun.  We worked on the project all day, around 6:00pm parents started to arrive and Mr. MacEntire had a surprise for everyone. It was a Breakout EDU session. We had 20 minutes to crack clues to unlock 6 different locks on a box. We didn’t get all 6 locks off the box. It was challenging.  After we presented our Superhero projects. A fun but long day.  Hana Rutherford Year 8
