 .For the 4th consecutive year, the French International School is organising the “Run against Hunger” on Saturday 11th June 2016 at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground (Chai Wan) from 9am to 12pm.
This sporting community project aims to raise participants’ awareness of poverty and world hunger while encouraging involvement in a festive sports event organised by FIS for: • its family friendly and sporting aspect (parents, children and school staff run together) • its charitable aspect (raising funds for a worthwhile cause) The event is open to all, young and old. Many classes have already started training. To register, please click here. This will help us to anticipate the number of participants and plan the event accordingly. Some key figures about the “Run against Hunger” around the word in 2015 11,926 young people from 28 French schools (AEFE or MLF networks) and many partners rallied to raise funds for Action Against Hunger projects in Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, and Haiti. In 2016, Action Against Hunger will focus its actions in Haiti. 1,650 is the number of students involved in one school. €183,489.52 is the amount collected by 28 participating schools in 2015, of which €9,257 was from FIS.  Sciences Po, otherwise known as the Institut d'études politiques de Paris, is an elite public research and higher education institution. It is currently ranked 4th in the world for political science in the QS World Rankings, ahead of Cambridge and several Ivy League colleges. It is very well known by our French Stream students and staff, but not so much by our International Stream students. This is a pity, as it has much to offer to English speaking students interested in politics.
The Bachelor degree at Sciences Po covers a broad range of social sciences: economics, law, history, political science and sociology. Students can choose degrees taught completely in English. It has a track record of producing world leaders. Within the field of politics, these include past Presidents/Prime Ministers of France, Iran, Portugal, Canada, Sri Lanka, Luxembourg and Monaco, and in terms of leaders of international organisations, a Secretary-General of the United Nations, Director of the International Monetary Fund, and Presidents of the European Parliament. Each specialises in the politics of a particular region, and 3 campuses teach in English: * Asia in Le Havre (courses in English) * North America (courses in English) * Middle East and Mediterranean in Menton (courses in English) * Africa in Reims * Central and Eastern Europe in Dijon * Europe & Franco-German Region in Nancy * Latin America in Poitiers The standard Bachelor degree lasts 3 years. The first 2 are spent at a regional campus and the 3rd overseas at a partner university, or on an internship. Nearly all students carry on with Master degree study in Paris (2 more years, also in English). Sciences Po also offers dual degrees. These consist of 2 years at a regional campus in France, and 2 years at a university overseas. In 4 years, students earn 2 separate Bachelor degrees from the 2 universities and have a really exciting experience with 2 contrasting universities and teaching approaches. Dual degrees are currently offered with: * Columbia University, New York * Freie Universität Berlin * Keio University, Tokyo * National University of Singapore * The University of Hong Kong * The University of Sydney * University of British Columbia, Vancouver * University of California, Berkeley * University College London Admission to these degrees is very competitive. Students are assessed through grades, an essay, references and an interview. The guidance team will be delighted to talk to any IB students who are interested in Sciences Po. Each year several of our French Bac students are admitted,and there is no reason why suitable IB students should not also apply.
