Aspiration : a hope or ambition of achieving something
Aspiration guides us to advance and achieve, every poet or nobel award winner starts as a child with a dream. In working hard and never giving up, we are constantly moving towards our goals. Never laugh at your dream because it seems bigger than you are, for you are the vessel, and something within you can never be larger. A path of a hundred miles always begins with that one step, and realizing your aspirations is that first step. So through this video I hope you realize that everyone has big dreams, but will it be you to realize it?

Last Tuesday afternoon, the 5th of February, the elections for the Student Council took place. The air was abuzz as Form and Vice Captains filled the room – everyone was excited to get the vote going. After Mme Leonard and Mr MacLean reminded everyone about the various leadership positions available, the interested students wrote their names on the board next to the role. It was a fairly straightforward election except in three positions where more than one person was interested: President, Secretary and Vice-Treasurer. Therefore, a vote was needed to determine who of the two candidates would prevail. After speeches from the two Presidential candidates (Saanal Deshpande of L6A and Miguel Santana of L6B), the two Secretary candidates (Liza Sequiera of F4A and Joseph Guillon of F3B) and the two Vice-Treasurer (Emilie Parlett and Hector Hubert of F2B), the vote finally began. The atmosphere was filled with anxiety as Mme Leonard counted the votes at the back of the classroom. In the end, Miguel was elected President, Liza elected Secretary and a tie occurred between Emilie and Hector, resulting in their join-election. It was a great and productive hour that will for sure kick-start a very prosperous year for the Council.

Some of our class captains' resolutions for 2015
David
As the new year has arrived, I look forward to enjoying my time even further with my entire class. I believe that only with classmates, friends, one can strive to achieve their full potential. As captain, this is important as their trust, loyalty and support is irreplaceable, especially as it makes my job as representative so much more special. Overall, as a class, we seem to all agree in 5A that in the new year, we will want to not only keep strengthening the relationships between each other but also be determined to achieve the marks that we deserve during our important examinations in May/June. As a class, we would like to wish all of you reading this page a very successful and most importantly happy new year 2015. |
Miguel
L6B’s New Year’s Resolutions 1. Work hard… but not too hard. 2. Take naps. OFTEN. 3. Use our free time to do something fun, like playing a sport or doing something creative. 4. Be more organized. IB isn’t getting any easier :). 5. Meet new people. We can never have too many Facebook friends. 6. Save, not spend. Who knows when we’ll need those $20. 7. Be kind to our family. They are the only ones we’ll always have! 8. Do something adventurous. We only live once. 9. Sleep at least 8 hours. We’ll need it. 10. Actually follow these New Year’s Resolutions. 2015 will be a blast! |

Here is my classes’ new year resolution: For our class of F5B, we have decided to collate all our resolutions together. Some that were often said were to put in more effort to achieve overall better grades. Another common resolution was to be more organized and to have better time management by stopping procrastination. Some people wanted a healthier lifestyle and to sometimes do something else than study while some others wanted to study more and start revisions earlier. So basically a more balanced time. |

My resolution for this year is to be more organised, especially between work and after school activities. As a class in L6B, we want to work with one another more effectively and to help each other through the challenges of the IB. We feel that by working together and with good communication, as a class we can do well and achieve more. |
Emilie
Writing New Year resolutions is one of my favourite things to do at the start of each year. It reminds of a new leaf. This year, following the duties of Form 2B Captain, I plan to help enforce the communication between the teachers and students. I also plan to listen to ideas and suggestions (I have already received many) and take action. I am hoping that I could possibly arrange school trips or fun activities for my Form. |

The CVL: what is it?
The School Life Council (Conseil de la Vie du Lycée) brings together 10 elected students as well as parents and staffs representatives. Together, they can draw up concrete proposals covering all aspect of everyday life at school. The Headmaster chairs the meetings.
Elections All of its members are elected by direct universal suffrage. Candidates should present themselves with an alternate candidate (if the main incumbent is in U6, his or her alternate will have to be in a lower class). Function and power of a member The Council has a role of consultant and draws proposals. It can act on the form captain training and decides on how the yearly funds will be spent. It ought to be consulted for: - General organisation of studies - The making of the school project - The making of the school rules - Organisation of school time - General arrangements for homework and support classes - Information about vocational orientation - Health, hygiene and security - Organisation of recreative spaces - Organisation of sport and cultural activities as well as extra curricular activities - Form captain training - Use of the yearly funds - Opinions, advices, proposals and minutes of the School Life Council must be transmitted to the "Victor Segalen" Council |
